I have an E2 that charges my Dolphin almost exclusively on the surplus solar from our panels (I’m a shift worker so the car is often parked at home during the day).
We will soon have a 30kWh battery (6kW inverter) installed and it’s likely I’ll be shifting to ‘office hours’ so I’ll not have as much opportunity to charge directly off the panels.
Ideally, I’d like the panels to charge the home battery during the day and the home battery can charge the car for 2-3hrs overnight. The E2 will pull 7kW when charging on full power and my battery can only output 6kW.
Is there a way to set the E2 to only pull from the battery and not the grid unless explicitly told to? Same as the solar surplus settings do for the panels.
What does the ‘My solar system includes a battery’ toggle in the Behaviour Settings do?
Is there anything special I should be telling the battery installer when they commission the battery system?
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris.
The setting in the app makes sure that if you are charging from solar, the charger will ensure that as the sun goes down you won’t end up supplementing the solar output with battery output. We don’t have a setting to charge only from the battery as you’ve suggested, but I’ll think about whether we might be able to do something like that in future.
I’m going to need to check the answer to the wiring / installer question with one of our team, so will get back to you on Monday.
Kind regards,
Tom

Our installation team recommends to tell your installer to “ensure the EV charger CT is upstream of all loads, PV or battery connection, and to treat the charger supply as you would any other load”.
Kind regards,
Tom
Your EV will have a bigger battery capacity than your home battery. You wouldn’t want to drain it just for your EV. It’ll be a waste of battery cycles.
Get an EV plan instead and charge your EV at night at cheap rates. And make sure your home battery can be configured not to discharge to the EV battery while charging from grid
