I’ve got an E2 charger and love it. I have it scheduled to charge from 12am to 6am to make use of a cheap EV tariff during that period.
I have it integrated with Home Assistant (also a smart power monitor) and I have noticed it seems to initially pull 29A but then after about an hour it drops down to 26A for the remaining charge time (5 hrs).
What could causes this and does it sound like expected behavior? I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to get more energy out of it during that time period. I know it wouldn’t be life changing but just out of curiosity if anything.
I have the same issue only recently. E2 Plus would max out the charge consistently at 7kw but now it hit’s high 6’s and then drops down to high 5kw’s in a slow decline.
I think i saw a message pop up about temp limits and this is in QLD, but it’s only been 26c, wait until we hit summer in the high 30’s. Is the Evnex not suitable for those temps?
And the unit is installed outside in the shade of a carport.
Possibly related. Our E2 is also dropping to around 6.4kw, apparently “Limited by charger temperature“. This occasionally happened during hot nights last summer, but it’s only spring and not that warm yet. Also seen “limited by home load”, but very few things actually running throughout the house. Last summer we had two AC units cooling, the dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and hot water cylinder all running and didn’t have this issue.
Ah right, thanks. I assumed you may be using some third party tool. I havent seen any warnings in the app so its probably safe to assume my E2 hasn’t been limited yet.
Is anyone from Evnex on here? Just following up if htere is anything we can do. I am seeing the charger output drop throughout the day. For example today, it hits 7kW then quickly drops to 6kW (within 30 mins), and over a few hours has dropped to 5.6kW even though Ive got 3kW of excess solar. I don’t see any notifications about de-rating due to temperature etc.
Could you please email support@evnex.com and send your charger’s serial number so our support agents can investigate the logs and get back to you?
We will then reply in the community forum the outcome for other members visibility.
Please see the information below regarding thermal de-rating:
-” We understand it can be surprising to see a “Limited by Charger Temperature” message, especially in mild weather. Here’s what’s happening: Why this occurs
All AC chargers — not just Evnex units — include thermal derating to protect internal components and ensure long-term reliability. This behaviour depends on several factors, including:
Charger location
Airflow and ventilation
External and surface temperatures
Sunlight on the charger
Thermal mass of the mounting surface (e.g., brick walls that retain heat)
Because of this, the message is informational, not a sign of a fault or damage. It simply means the charger is currently reducing output to preserve hardware, and the current behaviour is safe. What we’re doing:
Our software and hardware teams have reviewed 250,000+ charging sessions and are actively working on a firmware update that should:
Thanks for the response! I will email support. I should note, I dont have any real concerns and am currently a very happy customer. I just wanted to see if there is anything I can do charge at max speed for longer. Thanks
