E2 Plus Charger Firmware Release Notes

Hi Tom, my charger was replaced about a month ago but is still behaving the same minus showing the “Limited by charger temperature” message. It’s happening with my car and my wifes car. The charger will sit at 7kw for about 30 minutes or less and then drops down to 6.3kw or lower. When we charge there’s nothing else on in the house that’s pulling any decent amperage (I monitor all the circuits) and the house hasn’t gone over 34amps. If you have a look at my logs for the last week you’ll see what I mean.

Is there another firmware you can update it to?

Check you have the updated firmware (2.8.8.6)

Mine was the same till firmware update. This morning it worked perfectly charging at around 7kw the whole way.

My firmware is 2.8.6.168A096. Let’s hope an update can solve it.

I’ve raised this with our support team who will look into it - it certainly shouldn’t be happening.

I’m also on this version but my charger now tops out around 4.5kw, before dropping to 3.7kw. Is this a firmware issue, or is my charger (yet again) broken? It’s winter here now so ambient temperature is cold…

I came to the site to understand why my E2 charger is only charging at 6.6kw from the grid and not the advertised 7.5kw. I’m now reading between the lines that there is a safety issue and it has got me concerned. Am I right to be worried?

Hi Neil.

There’s no safety concern here - the charger monitors internal temperature and reduces charging speed if it gets too hot so as to stay safe.

The problem is that we have found a few chargers where there is more heat being generated than there should be, and so the reduction in speed is happening at lower ambient temperatures. It is still safe to use, but we are replacing some cables in order to restore normal performance.

I’ve taken a look at your charger and can see that the vehicle is drawing less current than the charger is offering, so I suspect that in your case the vehicle might not draw the full 7.4kW? Or another possibility if you are looking at the vehicle display is that it is reporting just the power going into the battery rather than the total power being supplied. The car will take some power to run the battery monitoring system, and some will be lost in the conversion inside the vehicle.

Kind regards,

Tom
