Hey all, considering the E2 Flex. No solar at the moment, single phase. I know I need to get an electrician in but just trying to wrap my head around the setup. I’ve run a rough, what I think scenario below. Where would the CT sensor need to be placed? I think it’s either A or B?? Correct?
Thanks brains trust
It depends where you think you are most likely to need overload protection.
If you place it at A, the total home usage will be monitored and the charger will try to stay within the limit. This is generally the best option since for most houses the scenario you want to avoid is heat pump / induction hob / oven / jug / EV charger all running at the same time.
In your case, the size of the cable run out to the sub-board is important. If it’s a 40A supply just running the charger and some lights then it will be fine so I’d go for whole home load (location A). But if it’s a lower limit, or the shed runs a freezer, some machinery, other chargers (eBikes and the like) then you might be better off protection the sub-board at location B.
Hope that makes sense.
Tom
Thanks for that. Would it make any placement difference if I’m considering Solar soon?
Unless the solar is going on your shed and exporting back to your house, then you almost certainly want to monitor at location A. With solar on your house, the exported energy won’t go past location B, and therefore the charger won’t be able to tell whether there is excess available for charging or not.
Kind regards,
Tom
